Political art with LEGO: Legofesto denounces human rights abuses and the War on Terror

Legofesto is an anonymous political artist and activist with a passion for LEGO. With LEGO figures, bricks and pieces she re-creates and denounces human rights abuses and violence. Disappointed with the ways in which the War on Terror has been carried out, Legofesto uses these toys and sculptures to remember, denounce and create emotional impact.

To document the events and re-create the scenes she relies on photographic evidence and first person testimony from different sources including ordinary citizens or even the abusers themselves as in the case of The Ghosts of Abu Ghraib recreations. She even used children’s drawings as testimony and to re-create in her sculptures the sense of fear and terror that children experienced in the village massacre in Darfur (here).
